rain is loud on an empty bin
water mingles with tears as it drips off the leaves
shivering under the hedge she lies, tshirt drenched and salty faced
‘please let me live, please let me live’
cars whoosh past, puddle spraying her bed
hidden from all but the insects
and neighbourhood cats
fear surrounds and envelops as the last drunk stumbles past
singing his song of lost love and broken promises
he stops and pisses against her home, beer smell overtaking the sweat and fear
burps and farts follow him up the street
darkness wraps her in its loving embrace
safe now and at peace
remembering family and friends lost
wondering what to eat and how, tomorrow
but tomorrow is another day
for now
she sleeps
in the rain
